Strictly Come Dancing: Same-sex Dancing Partners

I don’t know whether or not there are gay couples out there who dance ballroom and/or Latin together. There may be but if there are I have never seen them. I know there are family members who dance together, it can be a little disturbing to watch when they hit puberty but I know it is done. Of course, it’s not limited to ballroom and Latin, there are other dance styles where people can dance as a duo, but I reference those two specifically for a reason. Now, I have no problem watching a same sex couple dance. I have danced with a woman before where she did the male partners steps; I have also danced with a woman and done the male partners steps, no problem. What I have a problem with, is Strictly Come Dancing deciding they need to introduce same sex dancing partners. Why? There is at least one professional dancer on that show who is gay and dances, always has, with female partners. There have been homosexual celebrities competing who had no problem having a dancing partner of the opposite sex. It’s art, like acting, sexuality should not be an issue. There are enough heterosexual male dancers labelled as homosexual purely because of their profession.
Now, I can say with certainty, that Robert Rinder, who is an openly homosexual man who competed on the show in 2016, is against same sex couples on the show. Rob Rinder (commonly referred as Judge Rinder, due to the show he presents on ITV1) competed in the fourteenth series on the show in 2016. He and dance partner Oskana Pletero ended the competition in week 11 in fifth place. When the idea of same sex dancing couples was brought up, he was asked what he thought of the concept during an interview on the ITV1 show ‘Lorraine’.
“ My immediate, serious and thoughtful reaction was ‘don’t be absurd’…First of all it’s a sport…nobody was asking me to get married to my partner or to engage in any sort of geography with her…some things just aren’t politics and Strictly is absolutely one of them…I don’t think it’s going to make any difference to the life of any young person…if she (Susan Calman) dances with an almost straight woman…whether she dances with a man or not can make no difference to anybody…it’s not real life”
Rob Rinder also went on to say that there are much more serious things we need to worry about and I agree. All we see on TV these days is what Meghan Markle is doing ( I really don’t care) what absurd, non-issue things people want to ban, what fake, man-hating ‘feminists’ who need their heads examined are suddenly offended by and who got voted out of ‘Love Island’ (If I could care less I would).
One thing that I think makes this a really silly idea is the roles. In a dance, the man leads and the lady follows, that’s how the steps work. If we have a same sex couple dancing, there is going to be the question and answer that the LGBTQ community and their supporters have been fighting against for years. “Which one is the girl and which one is the boy?” Neither. Both the males in a same sex relationship are men. Both the females in a same sex relationship are women. If same sex couples are dancing dances such as the salsa, tango, waltz, foxtrot etc, one will be doing the ‘man’s’ steps and one will be doing the ‘woman’s’ steps. It makes no sense. I would like to meet the members of the LGBTQ community who have a problem with Strictly only having heterosexual dances. I do not believe they exist. If they do, they need to calm down and focus on actual issues.
